God is My Salvation Isaiah 1-12

God is My Salvation Isaiah 1-12

There is so much to be learned from Isaiah... why do we struggle so much to understand it? So this time as I approached the "actual" book of Isaiah, I decided I needed to really buckle down and learn something.  After all, even Jesus himself quoted Isaiah and admonished all of us to learn and know his words.  That means there must be some pretty important things for me to learn there.

The Lord is My Shepherd Psalms 1-2; 8; 19-33; 40, 46

The Lord is My Shepherd Psalms 1-2; 8; 19-33; 40, 46

There had to be a lot of righteous Israelites mixed in, sadly paying the price for the sins of the others as they all fall into captivity.  We hear some of their stories too, but what about the ones that didn't do anything big, they just lived quietly in righteousness?  The psalmists, that quietly worshipped the Lord, that trusted Him even when times were terrible, and that sang these songs to Him. We don't even know their names, for the most part.

Is Anything too hard for the Lord Genesis 18-23

Is Any Thing Too Hard for the Lord? Genesis 18-23

Is anything too hard for the Lord? I love this question, because the answer is so obvious, yet it's so hard for me to comprehend.  EVERYTHING is too hard for me, and sometimes I forgot to include the Lord so that I don't struggle so much.

But one of the really big messages for me in Genesis 18-23 comes from the story of Hagar.  I think her story is kind of sad.  But at the same time, it really is a story about how the Lord knows each of us and will provide what we need.

It Is Thy House a Place of Thy Holiness

It is Thy House, A Place of Thy Holiness D&C 109-110

Every blessing I ever get is predicated on me doing my part first, and I'm not doing it.  I'm sitting around waiting and hoping for things to get better instead of preparing myself to deal with the idea that maybe they won't.  But even if they don't, I can set myself apart from the world and all this contention by getting myself back to the temple.

After Much Tribulation Cometh the Blessings Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants

After Much Tribulation Cometh the Blessings D&C 102-105

All throughout the scriptures I see examples of people having to prove their allegiance to the Lord by living through sometimes unimaginable tests. The hardest thing about these trials of faith is the step that is required into the darkness.  That first act of trust, when there is so much unknown. The willingness to sacrifice when you don't know the outcome.

Be Still and Know That I Am God Come Follow Me D&C 98-101

Be Still and Know That I Am God Doctrine & Covenants 98-101

An interesting thing to realize as you read these parts of church history is that these mobs that were doing the persecuting were, many times, not strangers. These were their neighbors, some of whom they had probably done business with at one time. In some cases, like in Kirtland, these were former members of the church--people that at one time had called the people they were now persecuting "brother".

For the Salvation of Zion D&C 94-97 Come Follow Me

For the Salvation of Zion - Doctrine and Covenants 94-97

The one thing that I noticed as I was reading this week's lesson, For the Salvation of Zion, is that there are a lot of IFs here.  The Lord has so many blessings in store for us, but there are always requirements for us to qualify for them.

A Principle With Promise D&C 89-92 Come Follow Me

A Principle With Promise Doctrine and Covenants 89-92

A funny thing happened as I was reading the sections in this lesson.  I got an answer that I didn't know I needed to a question I didn't know I had. It's always funny when the Spirit works that way.  Section 89 really is a principle with a promise, and I learned that this week.

Stand Ye in Holy Places D&C 85-87 Come Follow Me

Stand Ye in Holy Places D&C 85-87

The scripture in the Doctrine and Covenants that counsels us to "stand ye in holy places and be not moved" is probably one of the most well known and often quoted verses.  We see it quoted with pictures of temples, families in their home having family home evening, or sacrament meetings.

These are all physical locations that represent holy places, but as I was studying this week, and with some of the extra material that I read to go along with it, I started to think of standing in holy places a little differently than I have in the past.

Where Much is Given Much is Required Come Follow Me

Where Much is Given Much is Required D&C 81-83

The blessings that come to me because of the covenants I have made, the truths I have learned, the Priesthood that has blessed my life, and the Spirit that is with me every day remind me that I owe the Lord far more than I can ever repay.  Yes, He requires a lot of me as he asks me to keep His commandments, but it is the least I can do compared with all He has done for me.
